Outline

A DfE approved course, suitable for senior mental health leads, with responsibility for coordinating the school's approach to mental health and an interest in improving the mental health and wellbeing of learners and staff.

Description

This course is the last available locally for schools in Wiltshire, B&NES and Swindon and forms part of the DfE offer of funded training from 2021.

The content of this course aligns with national guidance, Promoting children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing A whole school and college approach developed by Public Health England and the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition.  

Attending this course will help you complete local healthy school and mental health audits. It is specifically designed to meet the needs of schools within the BSW area and links to further local support and services.

The course will assist you in meeting the requirements of the RSHE Statutory curriculum and relevant sections of Ofsted’s Inspection Framework.

Outcomes

By the end of the course you will have:
  • understood the role of the Senior Mental Health Lead
  • explored personal attitudes and values and examined local data
  • identified those issues pertinent to the pupils in your schools and be able to plan to meet these
  • gained confidence to embed a whole school approach to mental health within your school
  • considered services and provisions within your local authority.
