Dear Colleague

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK 14th–18th NOVEMBER 2011

‘Stop and think – words can hurt’

The Anti-Bullying Alliance’s Anti-Bullying Week has gone from strength to strength in Swindon over the past 6 years and we hope you will be participating this year. This year’s theme focuses on ‘Stop and think – words can hurt’ and the week will culminate in the Celebration Event.

Celebration Event on Friday 18th November 2011

9.45am arrival for 10.00am start – 12.00pm close

The Ridgeway School, Wroughton

Following the successful Anti-Bullying Event last year at New College, we would like to invite you to take part once again.  We are delighted that Ridgeway School have offered to work in partnership with us for this year’s Celebration Event.  We would again like to open this event to Year 6 Primary pupils as well as Secondary and Special schools.  Furthermore, we can confirm that the Mayor of Swindon will be presenting the awards and prizes.  There may also be a media presence at the event.

Getting Involved in this Year’s Event:

The variety and quality of performances last year was excellent and we would again like contributions from as many schools as possible.  This could be an ICT presentation, song, dance, drama or other suitable piece.

Next Steps:

If you would like your school to participate in this year’s Celebration Event, please complete the attached form and return to Surbjit Gill by Wednesday 2nd November 2011 at the very latest.  Performances should be no longer than ten minutes and unfortunately have to be restricted to one per school.  Please give an indication of the number of seats you require on the entry form and you will receive e-mail confirmation of your seat allocation.

Rehearsal Opportunity:

There will be an opportunity to rehearse the event and liaise with technical support in the week prior to the event if you require it.  Please let us know your requirements using the attached form or by email, so that we can notify Ridgeway school.  Facilities will be available at Ridgeway School for the pupils to change into costumes etc.

Transport and Car Parking:

There is very limited parking at the venue.  Please arrange for transport to drop off at the front of Ridgeway School, where you will be met by staff.

Anti-Bullying Competition – Creative Piece:

We would like to invite students from all schools to enter this competition.  Entries can be in any form i.e. song, poem, creative writing, artwork, multi-media etc.  There will be prizes for each key stage and an overall winner.  Please submit entries and complete an entry form for each submission (please photocopy the entry form for multiple entries from the school).  The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 2nd November 2011.  Please send entries to Surbjit Gill at the address/e-mail below.  Winners will be invited to receive their prizes at the Celebration Event.

Anti-Bullying Accreditation Scheme:

Schools receiving their Anti-Bullying Accreditation – both those for Good Practice and for Full Accreditation will be presented with their certificates.  The schools concerned will receive a separate letter notifying them of the outcome of their submission.

We look forward to hearing from you.  Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.  We wish you well with your entries and your work in preparation for Anti-bullying Week and look forward to seeing you at this year’s event. The Anti-Bullying Celebration Event is also open to Chair of Governors or any governor with an interest or responsibility for Anti-Bullying.  Please let Surbjit Gill know if you will be attending.
