The Fourth SHS Blog

We hope it’s been another good week for you. I always enjoyed this term at school, the hyper students, the festivities and the social events, gave the school a special vibe!

Talking about special we all know 2020 has some special things lying ahead for PSHE. The new statutory PSHE guidance will come into effect in September 2020. Most of the Swindon schools are ready with a new curriculum, some of you are already trialling it, which is great!

However, I do want to bring to your attention the need to include, Basic Life Skills and First Aid in your planning. To support you with this work, Wiltshire Air Ambulance have developed a programme which is designed to educate children from KS1 in Primary Schools to young adults in Secondary Schools.

The focus of the programme is CPR, increasing the chances of survival and educating from a young age with vital skills to support someone who may have suffered cardiac arrest.

The programme includes teaching of the following medical emergencies:

The planned sessions can be delivered in 60 – 90mins, depending on the age group and your requirements. With group sizes of no more than 30 students. The lessons are tailored to suit all abilities and all students will receive a certificate of attendance.

At present the Air ambulance are offering the service for FREE but they do intend to charge £1 per pupil from April 2020 to cover running costs. If your school would like to take advantage of this opportunity please contact Simon at:emergencyawareness@wiltshireairambulance.co.uk

Also supporting the new PSHE Curriculum we are offering FREE e-bug training to Swindon schools.

e-Bug is a free educational resource that makes learning about microbes, the spread, treatment and the prevention of infection fun and accessible for all. This training will take place on 25th February. Please use the link below to book your place.

Apologies but this training is due to take place in the coming week, primary courses are on; December 10th in London, and 12th December in Leeds. A secondary phase course takes place in Leeds on 12th December. If this is for you book a space now!
