How to....

June 2011

The School Food Trust is now in the unique position of being able to support schools, local authorities and caterers even further with a specialist training programme, based on the experience we’ve gained over the last six years.

We’ve summarised the low-cost courses on offer below; we would be very grateful if you are able to help spread the word by informing anyone who you think would benefit from this training to help maximise school food numbers and increase profitability.

All the one-day sessions are interactive, and specific to school food, which will give delegates the practical tools and skills that are needed to really make a difference.

The sessions include:

How to…. increase free school meals.  Find out how to get rid of barriers which can discourage families from signing up for free school meals. Increase meal numbers and make sure Pupil Premium funding reaches all pupils who need it. Find out more here.

How to…. put the fun back into learning with food and cooking. Cooking is a fantastic way for children to learn. On this practical day, we show delegates hands-on methods of integrating cooking activities into regular lessons. This session is linked to the primary school curriculum.

Find out more here.

How to…. develop flexible and compliant menu cycles. We share tried and tested approaches for developing a great menu which can reflect seasonal ingredients, link with school events and take advantage of special offers from suppliers – whilst still maintaining national school food standards. Find out more here.

How to…. engage parents and pupils.  Schools with high take up only achieve their meal numbers by getting parents and pupils on board. We’ve got two separate sessions, specifically focussed on primary and secondary schools, designed to help get families choosing a school lunch over a packed lunch. Find out more here.

How to… market school food. Take away practical techniques, quick-win ideas and simple planning tools to implement a marketing plan at low cost. Find out more here.

The first sessions start in October and we do have an early booking discount for places booked before 31st July 2011.
