Week two’s Blog

Afternoon on this sunny Friday, hope you have had a good week and are truly settled into the new academic year.

I want to remind you that we will be running the Year 7 Smoking prevalence workshops again after Christmas.  I will be emailing head teachers with the details, so please ensure you book your slots early. We are happy to deliver 2 workshops per session. There will be a session in the morning and one session in the afternoon. It’s vital we stay on top of this work as Swindon’s young people have the lowest smoking rate nationally and across the South West. 96% of Swindon’s young people DO NOT smoke tobacco and 98% of the students DO NOT use E-cigarettes. This is a fantastic news !

We will be updating some aspects of the workshop by including more information on smoking substances other than tobacco. However our data does show that only 5% of the Y11 students have tried cannabis. With your support we can continue to improve this data.

We will also be recommissioning the ‘How Are You?’ survey for Y11. This year I would like ALL our secondary schools to engage. The analysis of the survey is vital to you for developing personalised PSHE curriculums in your school.

We have been working with several teams writing bids, so watch this space, if we get the funding we will be looking for schools to pilot various health and wellbeing projects.
