Swindon Healthy Schools offer update
Date: 28 May 2025
Healthy schools create environments for pupils to learn, grow, and thrive physically. With the aim of reducing inequalities and improving the life chances for young people, Swindon Healthy Schools supports schools to deliver a whole school approach to health and wellbeing of their pupils, staff and parents and carers.
Following a review on Swindon Healthy Schools and reduced staffing capacity, we have made the following changes to our offer. If you have any feedback or questions, please contact SwindonHealthySchools@swindon.gov.uk
We can offer:
- Support for schools to network by creating an opportunity to share good practice, offer tips and share resources:
- Swindon Senior Mental Health Leads network meeting each term (3 times a year)
- B&NES Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Senior Mental Health Leads network meeting each term (3 times a year)
- Affordable Schools Network. Meeting once a term (3 times a year). To join this, please contact Mark Tidey: mtidey@swindon.gov.uk
- A self-assessed bronze, silver and gold Healthy Schools Award. Once you have met the criteria, we can send you a logo for your website/letterhead. Resources that may help you in this will remain listed at www.swindonhealthyschools.org
- B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire asthma friendly awards. Further information: www.swindonhealthyschools.org/resources/asthma-friendly-schools/
- A repository of useful links and resources – note that these were last updated in June 2025: www.swindonhealthyschools.org/resources The Swindon Healthy Schools website is likely to be migrated to the Swindon Schools Hub in late 2025.
- A primary and secondary schools pupil voice survey, which has offered invaluable guidance to public health strategy and shed light on social norms data, which is available for use by PSHE teachers in the classroom. Participating schools are given their bespoke results (if there are 50+ responses for a primary school or more than 100+ responses for a secondary school) in addition to an overall report.
At this time we will need to pause:
- PSHE leads network meetings. However, if your school would like to informally organise these, do get in touch and we can support with establishing this.
- 1:1 support for schools to gain Healthy Schools status.
- Swindon schools mental health and emotional wellbeing award. Having reviewed this with our partners BeU Swindon, we suggest that you work as a whole school to complete the https://wsca-measurement.co.uk/ which has similar criteria, is self-assessed and free of charge.
- Swindon Healthy Schools newsletter.
