Date: 17 Jan 2025
Guidance for schools and local authorities on funding for the 750 breakfast club early adopter schools from April 2025 has been published by the government: Breakfast club early adopters grant: 2024 to 2025 academic year - GOV.UK
the guidance states the importance of breakfast meeting the School Food Standards, spelling out acceptable options such as wholegrain and unsweetened cereals, higher-fibre bread varieties, fresh or preserved fruits, and hot breakfast items such as mushrooms, tomatoes, or baked beans.
The guidance also lists items that are not permitted such as packaged cereal bars, processed fruit bars, pre-packaged croissants, and chocolate-coated products.
Schools are also expected to make their breakfast clubs inclusive and accessible to all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and vulnerable children.
